DEEP RIVER, Ont. - Police in Deep River have started an investigation into what's believed to be the eastern Ontario town's first murder.

The body of Michelle Cameron, 27, was found Tuesday in a home in the town of 4,000 about 200 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.

Provincial police say Cameron's father-in-law, John Craig Cameron, 52, turned himself in to officers at the Parry Sound, Ont., detachment.

Michelle Cameron and her husband had separated on Jan. 1.

Rick Cameron says he's in shock, trying to explain the death to his seven- and three-year-old children.

The accused is charged with first-degree murder and was remanded into custody Wednesday in Pembroke, Ont. He's due back in court March 22.
