An Oshawa music teacher has been arrested and charged with sexual offences involving three teenage girls who had been his students.

In a news release issued Friday, Durham Regional Police say they started an investigation following a complaint by a 15-year-old girl.

"It was alleged that this offence took place inside the residence of the accused, where he taught music," it said.

"Further investigation revealed that an additional two victims, both between the ages of 14-16 years were touched inappropriately by the accused between January 2005 and September 2008. The accused was the private music teacher to all three victims."

The 41-year-old accused faces:

  • three charges of sexual assault
  • one of sexual touching
  • two of sexual exploitation

"The accused was held for a bail hearing and has since been released on a recognizance with conditions that he will not be allowed to communicate with the victims and their families and to have no association with children under the age of 16," police said.

Two other Oshawa teachers or coaches have been charged with sexual offences involving young people in the past week.
