Police are congratulating a Kingston, Ont. family for saving their young daughter from a suspected Internet predator.
The family called police after they discovered their 13-year-old daughter was chatting online with a man who used the screen name "The Huge One."
The girl's parents were able to read her online chats and when they saw the conversations were sexually suggestive, police say they contacted the person and asked them to stop chatting with their daughter.
When the suspect allegedly continued to chat with the teen, the girl's family called the police.
Durham police say the suspect used several onscreen names including "Bumpy Mickey Mouse" and "Burrowbags."
The teen and the suspect have been speaking since March over several social networking websites, police said in a news release.
Investigators allege the suspect tried to convince the girl to meet him at a hotel so that they could have sex.
"Due to the diligence of family members, the meet did not take place," the news release said.
Authorities executed a search warrant and three computers were seized from a suspect's home.
Police fear there could be other victims and are urging anyone who may have come across a similar online profile to contact Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
Michael Burrows, 39-year-old Oshawa man who once worked as a long-haul trucker, has been arrested in connection to the case.
He has been charged with luring, possession of child pornography and other sex-related offences.
