DRAYTON, Ont. - A 71-year-old man from Listowel, Ont., accused of putting the pedal to the metal is making do without his Buick for a week.

The man made the provincial police list of speeders of the week after being charged under the province's racing legislation.

Police say a 2004 Buick was clocked doing 110 kilometres an hour in a 50 zone Saturday on Main Street in Drayton, about 50 kilometres north of Kitchener.

Amzi Wideman was charged with racing a motor vehicle.

He is due in court in Guelph on Oct. 20.

Wideman lost his licence and his car for a week, as called for under the legislation.

Provincial police media officer Mark Close says the case is in the "upper range" of people charged under the law in Wellington County, adding most seniors tend to be cautious on the road.

"I do a lot of presentations at seniors' groups and most of the complaints I've found are that maybe some of them drive too slowly," he said.
