One man is dead following a shooting at a café near Martin Grove Road and Highway 7 in Vaughan Thursday afternoon, York Regional Police said.

Officers received reports of multiple gunshots at a café on Regina Road at around 2 p.m. and found the male victim dead in the parking lot upon arrival.

Police say the man is believed to be in his late 40s or early 50s.

Police say it is unclear whether the man was at the café or leaving the business at the time of the shooting.

Const. Andy Pattendon told CP24 there will be a heavy police presence on the scene in the early stages of the investigation.

"We have a lot of investigators on the ground there and they will be speaking with anyone that was at the café at the time," he said.

Police say they are looking for a male suspect seen fleeing the scene in a grey compact car soon after the shooting.

Officials say there were several witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact York Regional Police's homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423.
