A 35-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple criminal charges after he drove his truck down the wrong side of Highway 403 on Saturday, crashing into a car and killing a man.

Ontario Provincial Police say a man was driving a Ford F-150 truck westbound in the highway’s eastbound lane at about 3:30 a.m., when he struck a Nissan 350Z head-on.

An oncoming transport truck then struck the Nissan a second time.

The car’s driver, a 29-year-old man from Hamilton, Ont., was killed. A 20-year-old female passenger from Etobicoke survived with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver suffered only minor injuries.

Ricardo Cabral, 35, has been charged under the Criminal Code with impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, and four other related charges. He has also been charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Police say he will be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The highway was closed for about six hours following the crash, but has since reopened. Officers ask anybody who may have seen the truck prior to the crash to call them at (905)-681-2511.
