Toronto police believe a Mississauga man who was reported missing earlier this month may have been murdered.

Shawn Kapadia was reported missing by his parents on July 10. According to Peel Regional Police, Kapadia was last seen at his home in the area of Bristol and Kennedy Roads in Mississauga at approximately 2 p.m. on July 5.

Toronto police were later called to an address at 118-7 Foundry Ave., near the Davenport Road and Lansdowne Avenue area, on July 12. Investigators believe Kapadia was murdered inside the residence.

Speaking at news conference on Wednesday, Det. Dave Dickinson did not say what Kapadia may have been doing at the Foundry residence, but said "he had an association" to the address.

Dickinson also said there was no evidence of a break-and-enter at the Toronto home, but evidence found at the residence led officers to another home, located northwest of Port Colborne in Wainfleet, Ont.

Police found Kapadia's car, a silver Pontiact G6, at the home.

"Based on evidence collected in Toronto and Wainfleet, it is the belief of investigators that Shawn was murdered at 7 Foundry Ave.," Dickinson said. "To date the body of Shawn has not been located."

Police say they have received information that an older model John Deere backhoe was seen arriving at the Wainfleet home on July 10 and leaving on July 12 with a large block of concrete in the front bucket.

The vehicle was spotted travelling eastbound on River Road, from Philips Road towards Welland, Ont.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the backhoe to contact them.

"It is likely that this backhoe was borrowed or taken without consent," Dickinson said. "If you let your John Deere backhoe out or noticed it missing on the weekend of July 10, I need you to contact me."

Dickinson said he also wants residents in the Wainfleet, Welland and Niagara Falls areas to report any freshly dug holes.

Police have interviewed two unidentified people who live at the Found Avenue address. It is not known if they knew Kapadia.

Dickinson did not provide any details about potential suspects, but said he anticipates charges will be laid "very shortly."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Dave Dickinson at 416-808-7400, ext. 77418.
