A mentally ill man has been found guilty by a jury of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing his pregnant wife.

Turan Cocelli, 32, had admitted to fatally stabbing his wife, Aysun Sesen, and also stabbing his mother.

But his lawyer Aaron Wine argued he was unable to understand his own actions.

The Crown argued he knew his actions were wrong, despite his mental illness.

Cocelli testified he did not remember the stabbing at the estranged couple's home in the Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue area on Oct. 2, 2007.

The couple were separated but still lived together.

Sesen died in hospital, and the baby could not be saved.

In 2002, Cocelli was diagnosed with depression. Psychiatrists testified he showed signs of mental illness with psychotic features. However, they also said he seemed to be faking some symptoms.
