The Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating after a house in Markham went up in flames overnight following an explosion.

The two-storey detached home on Morning Dove Drive caught fire around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, after neighbours reported hearing a blast.

No injuries have been reported.

Police are investigating witness accounts that a man was seen fleeing the scene. Police have yet to determine whether or not they're treating the incident as suspicious.

The roofs of the houses on either side of the residence were also damaged. Area homes were safely evacuated, said York Regional Police Const. Rebecca Boyd.

The owner, who was not at home during the explosion, has been contacted, she said.
