A hang-gliding access at a private club in Pickering has left a man injured.

Monday's accident at the High Perspective Hang Gliding and Paragliding school happened just before noon.

"Upon arrival, the victim's injuries were initially assessed as serious and potentially life-threatening and an Air Ambulance was dispatched," Durham Regional Police said Tuesday in a news release.

"EMS treated the male at scene and determined his injuries were not life-threatening. The Air Ambulance was cancelled and the victim was land transferred to a nearby hospital and treated for a broken right arm and later released."

The man had been attempting to take off when he failed to disconnect properly from the winch. He was taken to hospital and treated for a broken right arm.

The 51-year-old Kemptville man hasn't been identified.
