A Toronto man previously accused of assaulting two people in the city's Parkdale neighbourhood has been charged in connection with several other attacks, including one that led to the death of 62-year-old George Wass.

Ricardo Morrison, 32, was arrested in May and charged in connection to two assaults dating back to early April.

On Thursday, Morrison was charged with assault causing bodily harm relating to five other victims dating back to Jan. 4, He was also charged with the second-degree murder of a mentally ill assault victim.

Wass died of injuries suffered during an attack on March 22.

Police have said there were about seven unprovoked assaults in the west-end Parkdale area earlier this year, man of them against residents with mental disabilities.

"The attacks were on our vulnerable group, more or less our silent voices of our community, and I think our communities took exception to that and stepped up to the plate and assisted," Staff Insp. Mark Saunders told reporters on Thursday.

The victims include a 45-year-old man who was attacked on April 5, a 55-year-old man attacked on March 3, a 62-year-old man attacked on February 25, as well as a 53-year-old man attacked on January 9 and a 47-year-old woman attacked on January 4.
