Peel Region Paramedics say a male pilot suffered serious injuries after the small plane he was flying crashed in a field near the Brampton Flying Club on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the Brampton Flying Club, on McLaughlin Road south of King Street in Caledon just before 5 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police say the plane went down in a field and came to rest upside down, about 30 metres away from King Street.

Paramedics originally said the pilot suffered minor injuries but then said he was re-routed to a hospital trauma centre in serious but stable condition.

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
