TORONTO - The sentencing hearing for the two theatre impresarios found guilty of cooking Livent's books has been put off until July.

Lawyers for Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb were set to begin sentencing arguments Wednesday, but the hearing had to be delayed while the judge waited for a jury to return its verdict on a different matter.

After a second false start today, the sentencing was rescheduled for July 6 and 7.

The duo behind such hits as "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Show Boat" was found guilty in March of cooking their company's books and defrauding investors of millions.

A judge found that Drabinsky, who was named to the Order of Canada, and his business partner, Gottlieb, deliberately misrepresented their company's finances before it went public in the early 1990s.

The convictions on two counts each of fraud and one of forgery carry respective maximum sentences of 10 and 14 years.
