The Toronto Blue Jays open a home series at the Rogers Centre at 7 p.m. tonight with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes goes to the mound for Toronto while Tampa counters with right-hander Jeremy Hellickson.

It's one of 15 games around the majors, including a matinee with the L-A Dodgers visiting the Chicago Cubs.

The games come days after the Toronto Blue Jays optioned left-handed pitcher Brett Cecil to triple-A Las Vegas.

The team selected the contract of infielder Chris Woodward on Thursday.

Cecil struggled in 6-2 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday, giving up five earned runs on six hits in five innings of work.

"We just think from a timing standpoint this is the right move for us and also the right move for Brett," said Toronto GM Alex Anthopoulos said Thursday during a conference call. "This gives him a chance to catch his breath a little bit, get his confidence back. I think everybody's seen that the performance is starting to wear on him and he wants to do as well as anybody and he hasn't been able to do it.

"It's happened to a lot of guys. He's only 24. He's only really had a full year in once, and we expect him to go down, pitch well, get his confidence back and be back here soon."

Cecil was 1-2 in four starts this season with Toronto. He allowed 24 hits over 21 innings with four homers and a 6.86 earned-run average. Cecil had 15 strikeouts against 11 walks.

Anthopoulos said the team has yet to decide on who will fill Cecil's spot in the rotation.

Woodward, 35, hit .305 with two homers and seven runs-batted in over 12 games with Las Vegas. He has appeared in 648 career games over 11 major league seasons with Toronto, the New York Mets, Atlanta, Seattle and Boston.
