The husband of former Ontario cabinet minister George Smitherman is missing.
Christopher Peloso, 39, was last seen Monday at 4 p.m. in the Davenport and Bathurst area where he lives. His family contacted police Monday morning, police say.
Const. Victor Kwong said Tuesday while police are concerned for his safety, there is no evidence to suggest foul play at this point.
“We don’t know the reason why he hasn’t responded to his calls, or hasn’t gone back home,” Kwong said.
Peloso and Smitherman were married in 2007. They have two children, Michael and Kayla.
In a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, Smitherman confirmed that Peloso has been missing for almost 24 hours.
“Michael, Kayla and myself, with the support of family and friends, are hopeful that our husband and father will be home safely soon,” Smitherman said.
Peloso is described as white, five-foot-eight, 150 lbs., with brown eyes and short, light-brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-blue jacket with a hood, tan-coloured cargo shorts and blue flip-flops. Police are asking anyone who may have information to contact them at 416-808-1300.
“If he is out there listening, to give family a call or give police a call so we can go and get him whatever help it is that he might need,” Kwong said.
Smitherman, a former health minister, left politics after losing the Toronto mayoralty race to Rob Ford in 2010.
