A 40-year-old man is dead following a hit-and-run accident in Brampton this morning.

The accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday on Bovaird Drive east of Kennedy Road. That area is located in Brampton's northwest, just west of Highway 410.

The victim has been identified as Mandeep Bhagtana, a Brampton resident. Passersby saw a man lying in the westbound laines of Bovaird Drive. He died in hospital.

Peel Regional Police are asking residents in the area to be on the lookout for any vehicle showing signs of new damage.

"Investigators have seized key pieces of evidence from the scene, including a traceable portion of the driver's side-view mirror from the suspect's vehicle," police said in a news release.

They are appealing to the driver to contact them, along with any potential witnesses.
