Both the east- and westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Bowmanville, Ont., have reopened after a fatal crash Monday morning involving a dump truck.

Police say the westbound truck crashed through a cement median at approximately 10:30 a.m., spilling gravel across the road.

The truck was destroyed when it rolled over and caught fire.

The driver -- identified as 32-year-old D-Jay Allen Bartlett, of Oshawa -- was killed in the crash.

As a result of the collision, all of the east- and westbound lanes were temporarily closed at Liberty Street for several hours.

The eastbound lanes reopened at 2:30 p.m., followed by the westbound lanes at 5:45 p.m.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, and ask any witnesses to call Const. Rodger Dingman at 905-243-4862.
