Three people saved a 12-year-old North York girl from being abducted from a mall parking lot, Toronto police say.

The girl told police she was in the parking lot of Yorkgate Mall in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area just after 5 p.m. Tuesday when a stranger allegedly tried to lure her into his car.

Three passersby noticed the exchange and intervened, allowing the girl to escape. They were able to give police a description of a suspect.

Police say the suspect was driving a dirty, older-model red or burgundy passenger van. He is described as having a light-black complexion, brown eyes with a shaved head and a moustache. He stood at about 6' and was wearing a brown suit, blue dress shirt and white shoes.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the alleged attempted abduction to call them at 416-808-3100. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
