FORT ERIE, Ont. - Niagara regional police say charges against a Fort Erie woman in the death of her two-year-old daughter have been upgraded to a murder count.

Roseanne Whalen, 23, had been charged with criminal negligence causing death and accessory after the fact to murder.

The charges were upgraded to second-degree murder during a court appearance today.

She is also charged with causing an indignity to human remains.

Whalen's daughter Marissa was reported missing in October but police believe she was killed in late July.

The remains of a child were found on Six Nations territory near Brantford and efforts are continuing to confirm an identity through DNA tests.
