TORONTO - A man who served as spokesman for the family at the centre of a baby transplant controversy says he wants to represent all the people of Toronto.

Calling himself the "Man with the Vision," J.P. Pampena says in a statement that he intends to enter the race to be Toronto's next mayor in 2010.

Current Mayor David Miller recently announced he would not seek re-election after serving two terms.

Pampena, who has been blind since he was 24, was a spokesman for the family of Kaylee Vitelli, a baby whose health was so poor her parents offered her heart for transplant before she managed to pull through.

Baby Kaylee, as she was called, suffers from Joubert syndrome, a malformation of the brain and brain stem accompanied by frequently interrupted breathing.

Kaylee's heart was offered to another infant when her parents thought she would die in April, but she returned home the following month after she rallied.
