Toronto firefighters have extinguished a two-alarm blaze at a home in East York.

The fire broke out at the home at 246 Torrens Ave., in the area of Pape Avenue and O'Connor Drive, shortly before 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko said the fire started in the basement, and was likely sparked by a candle or something in the kitchen. It is not considered suspicious at this time.

Acting Platoon Chief Mike Swift said the only person who had been home at the time was able to get out of the house safely. The person was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation as a precaution. A firefighter was also taken to the same hospital for heat-related causes, but no one was seriously injured.
