YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. - The body of a 14-year-old Canadian boy has been recovered from Lake Ontario after he vanished from a War of 1812 camp reenactment at Old Fort Niagara in western New York.

The Buffalo News reports the victim's mother and another adult were charged with misdemeanour endangering the welfare of a child for giving him alcohol.

His body was found in shallow water Sunday at Old Fort Niagara. Investigators say he was last seen alive seven hours earlier at around 2 a.m.

Police did not release his identity. They say there will be an autopsy.

The boy was among a group from Orillia, Ontario, taking part in a holiday weekend encampment featuring the capture of Fort Niagara, which stands on a bluff above the lake not far from Niagara Falls.
