Police say they have laid 10 charges against a youth they allege fired a handgun inside Central Technical High School last Thursday.

The incident occurred when two groups of three youth became involved in a confrontation around 1 p.m., police said Wednesday in an updated news release.

A gunshot went off, with everyone scattering as a result. This led to a school lockdown, with Emergency Task Force officers called to the scene to secure the school.

No one was seriously injured. But police released this chilling detail on Wednesday: They said the bullet grazed the victim's left temple.

Officers took two youths into custody at the scene, which is located near Harbord and Bathurst Streets, and tracked down a third one that evening who turned out to be the victim.

Two 17-year-olds were tracked down Friday afternoon. They were charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

One suspect was also charged with attempting to obstruct justice.

Both those teens made court appearances on Saturday

Following further investigation, police laid additional charges on Wednesday against the latter suspect:

  • conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
  • assault with a weapon
  • pointing a firearm
  • discharging a firearm and endangering life (three counts)
  • possession of a weapon dangers to the public peace
  • carrying a concealed weapon

Police say a third suspect remains at large. They are also looking to locate the firearm used in the shooting.

Const. Tony Vella told CTV Toronto that the conspiracy charge means investigators believe there is evidence that some planning went into the confrontation.

He said the three counts of 'discharging' were laid because were three other people in the vicinity when the shot was fired.

No allegations against the youth have been proven in a court of law.
