If you’re looking to get a head start on the weekend, and spend as much time away from the office aspossible, good news: Environment Canada says the day will be mostly sunny. The daytime high is expected to be 25 C, and will drop to a low of 15 C by Friday night.

TRAFFIC

A multi-vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401, at Trafalgar Road, in Mississauga may cause some commuter headaches this morning. The OPP say only one lane is open due to an accident involving at least five vehicles. Only minor injuries have been reported and cleanup is underway, so police hope to have an additional lane open within an hour.

Court appearance for hit-and-run suspect

A 40-year-old man who was arrested after an elderly woman was fatally struck on Highway 400 early Thursday morning will appear in a Newmarket court for a bail hearing today. The Bradford, Ont., man turned himself in after Chandrowtie Basdeo’s family made a public appeal for the driver to come forward. OPP say he was arrested for failing to stop at the scene of a vehicle collision that involved a death.

Mass meditation in Toronto 

Famed spiritual health advocate Deepak Chopra is hoping to bring inner peace to thousands of people in Toronto today while attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the largest collective meditation session. In order to smash the current record, at least 15,000 people need to participate. The Global Meditation for Peace event at the Westin Harbour Castle is set to start at 12 p.m. ET. Chopra will be joined by Grammy-award winning artist India.Arie.

The Jays will be coming out of a 2-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles when they face the Detroit Tigers tonight. Friday’s game at the Rogers Centre starts at 7:07 p.m. ET.

Tast of the Danforth

The annual Taste of the Danforth street festival begins today as with dozens of vendors, free activities and of course lots of food. About 1.5 million people are expected to attend the festival this weekend that will have Danforth closed from Broadview to Jones.
