Three suspects, including a 17-year-old girl, have been arrested in connection with a string of violent robberies and assaults targeting sex-trade workers.

The arrests come after five separate robberies at hotels across Toronto, police said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon. The most recent incidents happened on Tuesday at hotels in Etobicoke and Scarborough.

Staff Insp. Mike Earl said officers were called to an Etobicoke hotel on Carlingview Drive Tuesday on a report of a robbery. He said a 22-year-old escort was expecting to meet a client in her hotel room, but when she opened the door, she was attacked by three men.

Police say the suspects ransacked the room and stole her personal belongings. The woman was also sexually assaulted by two men, Earl said Wednesday. "She was forced naked and forced into sex acts by two of the suspects."

The suspects fled the hotel with the victim's cellphone, cash and clothing.

Hours later, one of the suspects was located in a vehicle at approximately 3 p.m. Police say a 29-year-old woman was being held hostage, and sitting in the backseat of the vehicle. Earl said the woman was the victim of an earlier robbery at a Scarborough hotel.

Similar to the incident at the Etobicoke hotel, police say the woman was attacked by three men when she opened the door at Scarborough hotel early Tuesday. Police say the victim did not have enough cash on hand, so the suspects took her hostage.

Earl said a meeting with the woman's boyfriend was set up, and he was expected to bring money in exchange for her release. But when he arrived, Earl said he was assaulted and robbed, and the suspects refused to let the victim go.

Police say the three other robberies happened in west-end hotels on Oct. 25, Oct. 27 and Dec. 7. In those incidents, the victims were attacked by three men, a girl and another woman.

Police say Lenford Richards, 20, of Toronto has been charged in connection with all five incidents. He is facing multiple charges, including six counts of robbery, six counts of forcible confinement and gang sexual assault.

Kevin Baigorria, 22, and a 17-year-old girl, both from Toronto, have been charged in connection with three of the robberies. They are also facing multiple charges, including four counts of robbery and four counts of forcible confinement.

All three suspects were scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Police are still searching for three other suspects.
