A Toronto-area mother has been charged in the death of her four-month-old child, Peel police say.

The charges came after emergency crews were called to an address in Mississauga, near Highway 401 and Hurontario Street on Wednesday.

Inside the home, crews found the lifeless body of the child, who has been identified as Alexander Platonov, police said.

Neighbours told CP24 that the family was very friendly and had moved into the home about two years ago.

Neighbours also said that they have another young boy, who is about four years old.

The father in the family is a doctor, neighbours said.

The cause of death hasn't been released and homicide investigators are probing the case.

Corinne Platonov, 40, faces a first-degree murder charge.

She will appear in a Brampton court on May 10.
