A young Mississauga woman struck in a hit-and-run accident has died in hospital of her injuries.

Const. George Tudos of Peel Regional Police told CTV News on Monday that Lindsay Tamminga, 23, died sometime on Sunday.

She had been out walking with a friend on Sept. 16 at 11:06 p.m. when a vehicle struck her near the intersection of Creditview Road and Kenninghall Boulevard in Mississauga.

Police said Tamminga's body was thrown a great distance by the force of the car striking her.

Paramedics took Tamminga to a Toronto trauma centre.

On Sept. 18, police made an arrest in connection with the incident.

Jose Cobaria, 58, of Mississauga will be facing a charge of failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 18 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

No allegations against Cobaria have been proven in a court of law.
