The family of Toronto teen Michelle Yu, who went missing on Tuesday, says they've heard from her and she is not in danger.

"We are ecstatic to let you know that contact has been made with Michelle. She is safe," reads a post on the Facebook page dedicated to finding the 18-year-old. "The family requests that you respect their privacy at this time."

Police told CTV News on Sunday they are still working to confirm Yu's whereabouts. She apparently told her family she has left the province and is now in British Columbia.

The family said Yu is doing fine, but did not say when she will return.

Yu's mother, sister, friends and teachers pleaded for her safe return last week after she disappeared.

Yu was last seen in North York Tuesday afternoon and her cell phone had been turned off since then. A surveillance camera captured the teen withdrawing money from a TD bank on Bay Street later that day.

At the time, police said it was possible Yu left town on a bus.
