Police say a man they had been searching for since Friday afternoon was trapped inside a mental health facility elevator for 24 hours.

Sampson Desroches, 61, got stuck in an elevator at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health near College Street and Spadina Avenue after briefly leaving the building to smoke a cigarette, according to police.

Police had issued a missing person alert, believing Desroches had slipped out of the building without permission. But someone realized Saturday afternoon that the man was stuck in an elevator.

Although shaken, Desroches is in good health, police said.

CAMH declined to comment on the incident.
