TORONTO -- A six-year-old Ontario boy has been safely located following an Amber Alert.
Niagara Regional Police reported that the boy was located at 1:23 p.m. and that a suspect was in custody.
"The child was safe and is uninjured," Const. Phil Gavin said.
The Amber Alert was issued at around 12:45 p.m. for what police characterized as a "possible parental abduction." Police said the boy was with his 44-year-old father and was last seen in Hamilton, Ont. around 9 a.m.
The pair was believed to be driving in a gold 2016 Mercedes SLK.
Police said that a suspect did turn himself in after becoming aware of the Amber Alert and has since been arrested.
"Much like the way all of us are impacted when an Amber alert comes out, be it your TV or radio or your mobile device, the same thing happened to him. And as a result, he turned himself in," Gavin said.
On Sunday evening, police said John Mitchell of Hamilton has been charged with abduction in contravention of custody or parending order and disoberying order of the court.
He is being held in custody pending a video bail hearing on Monday.
