TORONTO - Police are searching for a young Ottawa couple who went missing in the Toronto area more than a week ago.

Matt Perkins, who is 24, and 21-year-old Chantalle Hoover travelled to Oshawa to visit family members on Dec. 26.

On Jan. 11, they were dropped off at a Via train station in Oshawa and have not been seen since they were spotted walking east.

Police say the couple bought bus tickets for Port Hope but later tried to get them refunded and don't know if they tried to return to Ottawa.

Friends and family have posted messages on Facebook, urging Perkins and Hoover to contact them. One friend writes on Hoover's Facebook page: "This is very serious and is killing your family inside... please call home!"

Both Perkins and Hoover are six-foot-one. Perkins has a slender build and a shaved head and Hoover is 130 pounds with long brown or reddish hair.

Ottawa police are leading the investigation and Durham Region police, who cover Oshawa, have assigned a detective to the case.
