A missing Woodbridge man has been found after police stopped a vehicle that was travelling the wrong way on Highway 427 Sunday night.

York Regional Police had issued a news release on Sunday for a Mr. Varanese, 74, who was last seen driving his vehicle, a green 1996 Ford Escort wagon.

The description matched that of the car that was intercepted by Ontario Provincial Police while travelling the wrong way on the 427 at around 2 a.m. on Monday morning

Police confirmed Monday that the male driver was the same Mr. Varanese who had been reported missing one day earlier.

The driver reportedly has dementia, and his license will be suspended for medical reasons.

OPP officers were able to stop the vehicle without incident in the express lanes near Burnhamthorpe Road.

No other vehicles were involved.
