A missing giant fibreglass chicken has come home to roost.

The 2.5-metre (eight foot) decorative chicken went missing from a chicken farm in Windham Township and was recovered by Ontario Provincial Police Tuesday evening.

The white chicken, with an estimated value of $3,000, was plucked from the farm sometime between Thursday evening and early Friday morning, according to OPP.

Police located the chicken in Milton, Ont. and have charged one person with possession of stolen property.

The chicken's owner knows of the recovery and issued a thank you to the OPP for its safe return.

"This chicken has a lot of sentimental value to our family and we are very appreciative to have it returned," said chicken owner Frank Dierick.

Though the chicken is on its way home, it is a little worse for the wear. The thief snapped it off at the legs during the crime.
