Toronto police say they have found the body of a 47-year-old father who had been missing for the past two weeks.

Authorities would not say exactly where Chi Ngu Ngo was found, except to say that it was north of the city.

"It's all part of the investigation," Det. Dan Sheppard told reporters at a news conference Wednesday afternoon. "We have concerns about releasing exactly where the area is."

He said the body was found in an "open area" rather than inside a building.

Homicide detectives have been on the case since his children found signs of foul play in the man's North York home on Sept. 25. They went to check up on their dad after a late-night phone call with him at 3 a.m. on Sept. 24.

Ngo's remains were found on Tuesday, Oct. 7. An autopsy to determine the cause of death is scheduled for Friday.

"Mr. Ngo was living two lives," Sheppard said. "The first life was as a family man looking after his three children."

But he told reporters it appears the victim also had ties to criminals who are involved with distributing drugs. Ngo was unemployed at the time he disappeared but that he once worked as an esthetician, Sheppard said.

Ngo's three children told police they knew little of their father's day-to-day activities.

They were able to tell investigators that their father was driving a borrowed car. That car still hasn't been found, Sheppard said.

The homicide detective told reporters the children had moved out of their father's home and that the man lived alone at the time he was killed. The family was still very close, he said, speaking every day.

"I don't believe the children have anything to worry about," he said. "They are not involved in any of this."

Sheppard also shot down speculation that the house was being used as a marijuana grow operation.
