Despite saying the issue was "closed," the Tie Domi controversy is not over for the Greater Toronto Hockey League.
The league says it will take two weeks to decide whether it will take action against Domi, as it launches a formal investigation into an alleged verbal tirade by the former Toronto Maple Leaf enforcer against the coach of his son's hockey team.
GTHL Vice President Scott Oakman told CTV News that all sides will be interviewed and that a decision on whether disciplinary action will be taken against Domi will be made April 18.
After a lengthy meeting Tuesday night between representatives of the GTHL and the Toronto Marlboros minor peewee AAA team, the league decided to take ownership of the situation, said team president Jim Nicoletti.
It happened as Domi's lawyer signalled that Domi is ready to sue Toronto Marlboros coach Lucas Miller.
The ongoing dispute stems from an incident Friday evening at Herb Carnegie Arena between Domi and Miller. After a loss by the Marlboros -- the team Domi's son Max plays with -- Domi reportedly confronted the coach saying he was not playing to win.
Witnesses also said Domi allegedly launched a profanity-laced tirade at Miller.
The incident was heated enough that police were called to the arena, but no charges were laid.
While Domi said that the incident had been blown out of proportion, Miller alleged that he has been on the receiving end of harassment for much of the year.
Miller filed a complaint with the GTHL this week, but after a probe league president John Gardner said the issue was closed and Domi would not be banned from attending games.
The decision came after Max Domi scored the winning goal that secured the championship for the Marlboros.
In a short statement, released for Domi by his lawyer Symon Zucker, he acknowledges there was a "disagreement over Mr. Miller's coaching skills," and said that suggestions of an "assault or threatened assault" are untrue.
The statement adds that police investigated and found that the allegation had "no substance."
It ends by saying Domi intends to "seek damages for libel and slander."
