Another three banks in the GTA have been hit by a trio of bandits, one in Toronto and two in York region.

Const. Tony Vella of the Toronto Police Service told ctvtoronto.ca that the Toronto one occurred at 1500 Islington Ave., which houses Thorncrest Plaza.

The masked robbers, who were believed to be armed, went to the CIBC branch there at about 1:40 p.m. There's no word yet on how much, if any money, they made off with, he said.

They took off on foot, but a vehicle was reportedly involved.

In York Region, Const. Gerry Phillips said the first robbery there took place shortly after 2 p.m.

Three robbers struck a CIBC branch at 9641 Jane St., which is near Major MacKenzie Drive.

The suspects were masked. One had a gun. They obtained some money and fled on foot in an unknown direction, he said.

At 2:20 p.m., a third robbery occurred at a 1101 Rutherford Rd. RBC branch, which is about seven kilometres from the Jane St. CIBC branch.

The robbers had a similar description to the ones who hit the Jane St. CIBC, Phillips said.

There are no allegations the suspects used violence in the course of their York bank robberies, he said.

On Feb. 5, a trio of armed bandits hit two banks in Toronto. Both robberies occurred within one hour of each other.

On Feb. 1, the Canadian Bankers Association offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of three suspects involved in three violent bank robberies.

The trio of masked suspects entered the bank. One would pistol-whip a teller, causing injuries bad enough to require stitches.

However, it isn't known yet if one trio is responsible for the spate of robberies, or if there are different groups.
