A man was stabbed during an apparent road rage incident in Oshawa early Sunday evening.

Durham Regional Police say the 23-year-old was sitting in the passenger's seat of a car driving in the area of Valley Drive and Simcoe Street South when another vehicle cut in front.

Police say passengers in both cars exchanged words and soon the incident escalated into a physical altercation.

Authorities were called to the scene at around 5:30 p.m. They found the victim suffering from a stab wound to his side. He was taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was last seen driving west on Valley Drive towards Phillip Murray Avenue.

Police say they have a description of the suspect and vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his late 20s or early 30s. He stands between 6'0' to 6'4", with a muscular build. He spoke with a Caribbean accent, police say.

The car involved is described as being a dark colour, possibly a black or dark green Honda Civic sedan with tinted windows and factory hubcaps. Police say there might be damage to a rear panel.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or who may have information about the suspect to contact Det. Const. Greg Carroll at 905-579-1520 ext. 2732. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
