A man was shot in the head near Jane Street and Finch Avenue Friday night, police confirmed.

Police said the man, in his 30s, was struck by a bullet on Driftwood Court, shortly before 10 p.m.

He was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There was no word on a suspect, though police had set up a perimeter around the crime scene, which was near a townhouse complex.

The Friday-night shooting was the latest in a string of gun crimes throughout the week, which began on Monday when a gunman opened fire at a community block party on Danzig Street in Scarborough.

That shooting claimed the lives of Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23, and injured 19 others, in what police said was the worst incidence of public gun violence in the city’s history.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with a gun crime in connection to that shooting, but police have yet to lay any murder charges.

On Tuesday, Clayton Wright, 42, was fatally shot after a soccer game in Toronto’s west end. His brother was charged with first-degree murder.

Then, on Thursday, police found Daniel Davis, 27, suffering from a gunshot wounds near Flemington Public School in the Lawrence Avenue and Allen Road area.

The latest shooting on Friday night came the same day as Premier Dalton McGuinty spoke near the site of the Danzig Street shooting in Toronto and after Mayor Rob Ford met with concerned community members to talk about gun violence in Etobicoke.

Ford and McGuinty will meet Monday and will join with police and community leaders to discuss solutions to gun violence in Toronto.
