A man is dead after he was shot outside a crowded banquet hall in Vaughan on Friday night, York Regional Police say.

Officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds when they responded to the Paradise Banquet and Convention Centre at 7601 Jane St. about 11:15 p.m.

The man was transported to hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

Investigators aren't releasing the victim's name until his next of kin are notified.

The banquet hall was packed with people when the fatal shooting occurred in the parking lot.

Officials said the venue was hosting two stags, each with about 150 guests. It's still unclear, however, if the victim was attending any of the functions.

Guests who spoke to CTV News said they were unaware of the incident until police arrived.

Meanwhile, homicide detectives want to speak to anyone who was at the Paradise Banquet Hall on Friday night.

People with information about the shooting are being asked to call investigators at 866-287-5025 or 905-773-1221 ext. 7865, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
