Fire officials have discovered the body of a man inside the burned-out remains of an Etobicoke building.

Toronto Fire Services says 18 fire trucks and 75 firefighters battled the stubborn fire on Friday at the former bookstore, located on Lake Shore Boulevard west of Kipling Avenue.

Officials said the store had been closed for years, but the owner had stockpiled belongings almost to the rafters.

Crews had to clear out large piles of debris and cut holes in the roof and walls to extinguish the fire. The boxes of belongings inside the store had to be removed by heavy equipment before a full search could be done.

The victim was discovered on Saturday. He has not been identified.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what sparked the blaze.
