A man is in life-threatening condition following what police are calling a targeted shooting near Jamestown this morning.

Paramedics responded to a call about a shooting in the area of Finch Avenue and Martin Grove Road near the Jamestown neighbourhood at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When paramedics arrived on scene, they located one male believed to be in his early 20s suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and later transported to hospital where he will undergo surgery.

Police said it is possible that more than one person opened fire on the victim, who was on a bicycle at the time of the shooting.

"It's unbelievable at 9:30 in the morning," Supt. Ron Taverner told CTV Toronto. "It's outrageous that these things are happening. A school is right across the street."

Police did not immediately release information regarding potential suspects or motives but said that the victim was definitely targeted.

"Not only are we outraged, but this whole community is outraged," Taverner said.

"We need to stand up for the rights of our little community,” area resident Karen Letki told CTV Toronto. “We have young children here. We definitely don't need this going on when it's school time, when children are on their way to school."

"He's a good boy," Letki said. "He plays basketball out in front of my house. I just don't get it. I see all these young men being blown away over stupidity."

The shooting caused several schools in the area to be placed under a hold and secure as police investigate.

The hold and secures -- which have since been lifted -- affected Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School, Greenholme Junior Middle School and Elmbank Junior Middle Academy.

The shooting occurred a short distance away from where Candice Rochelle Bobb was shot and killed on May 15. She was five-months pregnant when she was killed.

Bobb and a group of friends had just left a basketball game when the vehicle they were in was shot multiple times in Jamestown.

Police have not released any information regarding a potential suspect in that case.

Bobb's five-month-old baby was saved via emergency C-section and remains in hospital in stable condition.
