A 29-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly barricading himself inside a York apartment with a firearm Thursday afternoon.
Police said that a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant had barricaded himself inside an apartment unit near Clearview Heights and Tretheway Drive. ‘
Heavily armed emergency task force officers could be seen patrolling the area at the time. Video footage of the scene also showed snipers holding positions on rooftops and behind cruisers.
“We received information that there was an individual that was wanted in relation to an offence that happened in another jurisdiction and uniformed officers from 12 Division began an investigation and subsequently attended the apartments in this area,” Toronto Police Insp. Anthony Paoletta said.
According to investigators, officers were able to negotiate "a peaceful surrender” and the man was placed into custody. A weapon was recovered, police said.
According to police, Chad Wray-McCombs was wanted by police in connection with a shooting in Brantford that occurred on Wednesday morning.
A 23-year-old man sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
Brantford police said that a second person, identified as 25-year-old Lori Ruth Ann Staats, was also arrested in connection with the shooting.
Both suspects are facing a number of charges, including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, and discharging a firearm with intent.
The Toronto District School Board said that Charles E. Webster Public School and York Memorial Collegiate Institute were placed under a hold and secure order as a precaution during the police negotiations.
The hold and secure order has since been lifted.
