Toronto police are combing a west-end apartment building for witnesses after a resident stumbled upon a man's body in a stairwell.

Tyrell Duffus, 22, had been shot several times, police say. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were dispatched to the Falstaff Avenue apartment building at around 10:30 p.m. Monday after the man's body was discovered on the eighth floor, according to Duty Insp. Howie Page.

However, detectives believe Duffus was shot sometime between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Homicide investigators will spend Tuesday going door-to-door hoping to speak with anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious. An autopsy is to be scheduled.

Monday's homicide victim is the second man to die from gunfire this week and the seventh murder in Toronto this year.

On Sunday night, a 30-year-old man was shot dead on the front porch of a home on Jane Street, near Trethewey Drive.

The victim of Sunday's murder – identified yesterday as Glenn Lowe – was killed at around 11 p.m.

Though police have spoken to several witnesses, investigators have not arrested any suspects in that case.

Authorities are reaching out to the public for help. Anyone with information is being asked to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7814 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
