Toronto police are investigating the discovery of a man's body lying in a laneway Monday morning.

Police received a 911 call around 7 a.m. from a coffee shop employee in the Sheppard Avenue West and Bathurst area. The Starbucks employee found the victim as he was taking out the trash.

Police said the victim had suffered obvious signs of trauma to his body. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being treated as suspicious, but investigators will not know if it is a homicide until after an autopsy.

The victim is believed to be in his early 20s and has not been identified.
