A man has been pronounced dead in hospital following a shooting in the Birchmount Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.

The call came in to police shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, said Toronto police Const. Scott Mills.

The victim -- a black male, believed to be in his 20s or 30s -- was found on the first floor of an apartment building at 1021 Birchmount Rd.

Toronto EMS took the victim to the trauma unit at Sunnybrook hospital, he said.

Paramedics could be seen performing CPR on the victim as they removed him from the building. Doctors could not save the victim’s life.

He is Toronto's second homicide victim of 2011.

Police set up a perimeter and interviewed witnesses. Mills said no suspects have been identified yet.
