Police have charged a man with second-degree murder after his 72-year-old wife was found with fatal stab wounds in a Vaughan home Saturday night.

The woman – identified by police Sunday as Teresa Dias of Vaughan – was found suffering from a stab wound in a home on Summerwood Court near Hwy. 7 and Pine Valley Drive at around 9:30 p.m.

She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was pronounced dead at around 3 a.m.

A male victim was also found to have been assaulted with a weapon at the residence, but was unharmed, police said in a news release Sunday.

Edmundo Dias, 82, of Bolton was taken into custody at the scene.

Police said Sunday he has been charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon.

Police say Dias was the victim’s husband, but did not live with her.

He is scheduled to make an appearance in a Newmarket courtroom Oct. 14.
