One man is dead and a second man is in police custody following a collision on Highway 401 near Whitby.

Provincial police said a Jeep Wrangler was travelling west on Highway 401 near Brock Street when it lost control at approximately 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jeep was rear-ended by a transport truck, and ended up in the ditch.

The driver of the truck failed to regain control of the vehicle, which rolled over onto its side, blocking all three lanes of traffic.

The truck driver, identified as 51-year-old Lindsay A. Findlay, was pronounced dead on scene.

The 32-year-old driver of the Jeep was uninjured, and was taken into police custody for impaired driving causing death.

As a result of the collision, westbound lanes were blocked for several hours. Police crews finally were able to clear the scene at approximately 4 a.m.
