A 21-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot Saturday night after a basketball game in Scarborough.

The man had just gotten into his car and was leaving the Don Montgomery Community Recreation Centre when police say a suspect approached the vehicle and shot him.

The single gunshot wound struck him in the side of his chest.

The victim was able to flag down a passing ambulance. His injuries are serious but not life threatening.

The arena is located next to the Kennedy subway station, in the Eglinton Avenue and Kennedy Road area. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the station and the surrounding area to help identify the suspect, Det. George Kaldis told CTV.ca Sunday.

Kaldis said while they have received some information from witnesses on the scene, they are waiting to speak with the victim for further details.

The suspect is described as being between 18 and 22 years old, about 6'0 with a skinny face. He was wearing a black hat and a blue jacket.

Anyone with information should call police at 416-808-4104 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
