A male victim has been pronounced dead in hospital after being shot in The Queensway and Windermere Avenue area Monday evening, Toronto police say.

Police were called to the area around 5:45 p.m. for an assault call. As they arrived in the area, shots were fired at an apartment complex on Windermere Avenue, just north of The Queensway.

Paramedics said a male was found suffering from a gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital without vital signs.

Police say he was shot in the torso.

The victim is estimated to be in his late teens to early 20s, EMS says.

One area resident told CP24 her son came home terrified after coming across the victim.

“My son came running in the house terrified. He said he heard a gunshot and he saw a guy lying on the ground bleeding,” area resident Debbie Kovaci told CP24 at the scene.

Police are currently interviewing witnesses in the area. Forensics officers are also at the scene.

Police say they are looking for at least one suspect in the shooting. No one is in custody so far.

Investigators say many people were in the area at the time and are appealing for any possible witnesses to come forward.
