A male has died after being shot in the city's north end Monday night, CTV Toronto reports.

The victim was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead. According to reports, he was taken to hospital with no vital signs.

Police found several empty shell casings near Sheppard Avenue West and Jane Street after residents in the area heard gunfire ring out.

Witnesses told police that a pair of men were seen running from the area before getting into a dark, four-door sedan.

Police have set up a command post on Sheppard Avenue and are currently probing the case.

No suspects have been named in the case and the victim's name has not been released.
